OCT 6, 2008 -- Historic Fall 2008 cover: final version Nissan Sport received over 1,000 entries for our historic Fall 2008 cover, which will celebrate 50 years of Nissan in the US. So many that we decided to open up the back cover as well, giving us nearly 500 cover slots. At left is the final version of the new cover (we made a few changes and corrections); at right is the issue's back cover. Click the images to enlarge and find your ride. To guarantee your copy of the magazine, a subscription is a good idea, as this issue will sell out on newsstands. Click here to subscribe to the mag!
OCT 10, 2008 -- Autoblog shows off spy pics of the Nissan 370Z. Interior, exterior, the works. The LA auto show can't come soon enough. Click here!
OCT 6, 2008 -- Sneak preview, Fall 2008 table of contents. The new Fall 2008 issue, celebrating 50 year of Nissan in the USA, mails out to subscribers in mid October and will arrive on newsstands in late October. Click here to see a preview of the table of contents of this historic issue. Almost every model ever released by Nissan, Datsun, and Infiniti gets a mention in these pages. We also highlight the best (and most unusual) cover car and truck submissions.
OCT 1, 2008 -- Autoblog reports leaked marketing pics of the Nissan Cube. Apparently the pics were taken of the promotional materials at the printer. The great news: the Cube is as quirky as ever, and maintained its asymmetrical look. Click here to see more pics of the much-anticipated Cube.
SEP 27, 2008 -- Paul Newman dies of cancer at the age of 83. A movie star to many, Newman was a championship racer to Datsun and Nissan enthusiasts. Nissan Sport highlighted Newman in the Summer 2008 issue (on newsstands until mid October) and will prominently feature his successes in our Spring 2009 issue celebrating Nissan's racing history. Newman was also the cover feature in the hugely popular (and nearly sold out) Spring 2002 issue of Sport Z Magazine. His loss is one that affects the entire Nissan community. Godspeed, Mr. Newman, with an emphasis on speed, a passion we enthusiasts share.
SEP 25, 2008 -- Nissan video celebrates 50 years. With the 50th Anniversary issue entering the final design stages, Bumper2bumper TV has jumped into the fray with this exclusive video celebrating Nissan's past, present and future. It includes an interview with Larry Dominique, Nissan North America VP in charge of Product Planning. Dominique's perceptive commentary should be of great interest to Nissan enthusiasts.
SEP 23, 2008 -- Paris Auto Show in early October to debut two Nissans. But don't look for either of them to come to the US anytime soon. The Pixo will be slotted below the Micra (at left), which means it could compete in strong man competitions as cars dudes can benchpress. The Nuvu, and all electric mini car, will be even smaller: a two-seater with a fold-down third seat. Big enough to hold groceries and not much else, we hear.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2008 -- GT-R pricing adjusted. Nissan announced that the list price for the GT-R will go up to $76,840 for the base model and $79,090 for the premium version due to increased materials costs. Which means, really, zippo, since there is virtually no way you're finding a GT-R for less than $90,000.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 -- 350Z at Mid-Ohio flips ... and flips.Brake failure and 130 mph do not mix. The driver walked away from this nasty accident that started at Turn 5 at Mid-Ohio. One that had the T2 class 350Z flipping off the track, through the gravel trap, over the tire wall, through the safety fence, and over another fence! While SCCA-mandated safety equipment did its job, credit Nissan's design and construction for preventing serious injury in this shunt. Hang on tight and view the incredible images by clicking here.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2008 -- Datsun Heritage Museum grand opening set for September 12-14. The new Datsun Heritage Museum, located in Murrieta, CA, will open its doors September 12. Open Friday through Sunday, DHM will celebrate all things Datsun. Click here for more information, including hours, location, and more.
AUGUST 26, 2008 -- Car and Driver DID publish our snide letter to the editor. When the managing editor of Nissan Sport wrote C&D to complain about the GT-R's second place finish to the BMW M3, we opined in the Summer 08 issue that the letter would "unlikely" get published. We were wrong. They ran it verbatim in their October 08 issue. Along with an equally appropriate smart ass response. Kudos, fellow Eds.
AUGUST 20, 2008 -- OMG: A Z31 doing 9.38 at 143 mph in the quarter! Believe it. Mike Debusk, featured in the Fall 2005 issue of Sport Z Magazine (click here to order) recently ran a jaw-dropping 1/4-mile time. Click image or film icon to watch his run, making his 300ZX arguably the fastest on the planet.
AUGUST 16, 2008 -- Infiniti G37 Convertible breaks cover! Infiniti just released the first photo of their much-anticipated G37 hardtop convertible. They also announced the addition of a 7-speed automatic to at least several versions of the G37 as well a new engine for the M35 (we predict the M37 with a 7-speed tranny). Click here for more details.
AUGUST 15, 2008 -- First Nissan hybrid to be 2010 Infiniti. Nissan announced that the first hybrid in the US will be a RWD Infinti version sporting a V6. Don't look for a hybrid-only model; we anticipate it will go on the G37 and will up gas mileage by about 40 percent. But it could be an all-new vehicle (not yet relesed) with both gasoline and hybrid options.
AUGUST 12, 2008 -- Project Infiniti G35 is for sale. One of our longest running and most popular projects, a 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan now loaded with mods, is being sold by Dave Ochenreider, the magazine's publisher. With over $10,000 worth of extras on the car, it can be in your driveway for $21,500. DaveO would even consider a trade for a well-equipped and maintained Z car (all generations considered). You'll be surprised at what comes on his G35. Click here to see more.
AUGUST 12, 2008 -- Ghosn says partnerships are off... maybe. We reported earlier this month that Carlos Ghosn, Nissan CEO, has put any partnership plans with Chrysler on hold for now citing the economy in the North America, specifically the rising steel and gas prices. But now rumors are surfacing again that Chrysler, now way to heavy on trucks, wants to badge and sell a Nissan sedan, an area where the Japanese company is quite strong. Stay tuned for any new developments.
AUGUST 6, 2008 -- Nissan to offer "intelligent" gas pedal in 2009. To help those lead footers out there lighten up on the gas, Nissan has developed a gas "eco" pedal that will push back if it detects too much pressure and poor fuel efficiency. The system, which can be turned off, saves 5-10 percent in fuel economy and will be on some models starting in 2009.
JULY 30, 2008 -- Can your Armada do this? David German of Sterling, VA, took his 2004 Nissan Armada (modified with a 2-degree timing advance, Airraid throttle body spacer, S&B cold air intake, Toyo M/Ts, Westin Black oval Nerf bars, and a PRG 2" mini lift) out for a little play in the puddles. Big sinkin' puddles. Click here for the video.
JULY 23, 2008 -- Sentras recalled for brakes. Nissan is recalling nearly 170,000 Sentras for a brake cylinder that could leak brake fluid into the brake cylinder assembly. This could cause the brake warning light to trigger and if not addressed could result in damage, increasing the potential for a crash. Talk to your dealer for more information.
JULY 17, 2008 -- Turn-By-Turn Analysis: Willow Springs Raceway. Senior Editor Ed Reeser shows readers how to survive one of the most challenging turns on a US race track: Turn 9 at Willow Springs. Watch his G35 twin turbo in action by clicking here. Click the pdf link at right or here to download his detailed instructions of the entire track. This exclusive bonus coverage is from the Summer 2008 issue of Nissan Sport, which highlighted Turn 9 and the Omega.
FEB 08, 2008 -- Magazine Download: Winter 2007 (#2). The Winter 2007 (#2) issue of Nissan Sport sold out in weeks. Nissan Sport has since grown 16 more pages, added 7 more project vehicles (240SX, Titan, Z32, 350Z Street, Xterra Off-Road, Z31, Frontier), expanded motorsports coverage (Notorious Turns takes you through the hardest turns on America's tracks), improved web coverage (Sarah's Web Watch), and added First Takes, a section decicated to new Nissan and Infiniti releases (production and concept). But issue #2 is still pretty sweet and now it's a free download in its entirety as it originally appeared. Click pdf link at right to view and download the 140 MB pdf file.
